第三回目の英語面接解説記事です。

 

前回までで、雑談や自己紹介、面接の前半に聞かれそうな想定質問を解説しました。

 

今回はその他、比較的良く聞かれる質問を解説しています。 ご自身の状況に置き換えて練習してみてください。

 

 

Q1: “What are your short-term goals?”

あなたの短期的な目標はなんですか？

 

この質問への回答を考える場合は、あなたのキャリアの現在のステータスを考慮する必要があります。 新卒でまだ仕事の経験がない人、またキャリアアップのためや、キャリアチェンジのための転職をしたい人、人それぞれに、適切な回答を考える必要があります。

 

Short Answers

 

新卒の場合の例です。

 

“My short-term goal is to find a position where I can use the knowledge of engineering which I majored at the university.  I want to contribute to the growth and success of the company I work for.”

「私の短期的な目標は大学で専攻したエンジニアの知識を活かすことができるポジションを見つけることです。 働く会社の成長に貢献したいと考えています。」

 

次はキャリアップのための転職のケースです。

 

“I’ve learned the basics of marketing as a Marketing assistant.  I want to take the next step by taking on challenging projects.  My short-term goal is to grow as a brand manager.”

「私はマーケティングアシスタントをしながらマーケティングの基礎を勉強してきました。 次はチャレンジングなプロジェクトに取り組みことで次の一歩を踏み出したいです。 私の短期的な目標はブランドマネージャーとして成長することです。」

 

最後に、キャリアチェンジをしたい場合です。

 

“As a program manager, it was important to understand all areas of the company.  Although I have the technical abilities to be successful in my job, now I want to learn different area of the business to expand my career.”

 

「プログラムマネージャーとして、会社全体を理解することが重要でした。 私は今の仕事で成功するには十分な技術的な能力があるのですが、キャリアを強化するために、ビジネスの違う分野も学びたいと考えています。」

 

 

 

 

Q2:”What are your long-term goals?”

あたなの長期的な目標はなんですか？

 

短期的目標を聞かれた次は、こちらの質問がきます。 候補者がどれだけ真剣にキャリアを考えているかを面接官が見極めるための質問です。 お金持ちになりたいとか、早くリタイヤしたい等の回答はNGです。 Ambitiousな目標を具体的にあなたの言葉で表現できるようにしておいてください。

 

Short Answer Example

 

“I would like to become a director or higher.  This might be a little ambitious, but I know I’ll have a chance, and I’m willing to work hard.”

「私はディレクターかそれ以上になりたいです。 少し野心的すぎるかもしれませんが、チャンスはあると思いますし、一生懸命働く覚悟です。」

 

 

“I want to become a valued employee of a company.  I want to make a difference and I’m willing to work hard to achieve this goal.  I want to make a significant contribution to the growth of the company.”

「私は会社にとって価値のある従業員になりたいと考えています。他の人とは違うことが提供できるよう、一生懸命働くつもりです。会社の成長に絶大な貢献をしたいと思っています。」

 

 

 

Q3: “What do you want to be doing five years from now?”

“Where do you see yourself in five years?”

「５年後には自分はどうなっていると思いますか？」

短期的な目標についてと同じような質問ですが、ちょっと変えて答えてください。具体的なキャリアの次のステップをあげるといいです。

 

Short Answer Examples

 

“In five years, I see myself as a valued employee of a company.  I want to be an expert at my position and start training to be a manager.”

「５年後には、私は会社にとって価値のある従業員になっています。担当分野の専門性にたけ、マネージャーになるための教育を受け始めていたいと考えています。」

 

“In five years, I want to be a senior analyst.  I want my expertise to directly impact the company performance in a positive way.”

「５年間で、私はシニアアナリストになっていたいです。 私は私の専門知識が会社の業績に良い方向で影響を与えられるようになっていたいです。」

 

 

 

 

 

 

Q4: “Do you work well under pressure?”

「プレッシャーがある中でもよく働けますか？」

 

プレッシャーの変わりに、厳しい期限があっても大丈夫ですかと聞かれる場合が多いです。 大丈夫ですと答えるのが基本ですが、ただYesと答えて終わるのではなく、プレッシャーがどんな風に自分に影響するのか、どんな具体例があるか準備しておいてください。

 

Short Answer Examples

 

“I enjoy working under pressure because I use the pressure to help me work more efficiently.”

「プレッシャーがあるとより効率的に働ことができ、私はプレッシャーがある中でも働くのが楽しいです。」

 

“I work well under pressure because I don’t panic.  I maintain self-control and work as efficiently as possible. “

「私はプレッシャーがあってもパニックにならず、良くん働くことができます。 自分を律し、可能な限り効率的に働くことができます。」

 

 

 

 

 

 

Q5: “Are you a risk taker or do you like to stay away from risks?”

「あなたはリスクをとるタイプですか、リスクを避けるタイプですか？」

 

この質問への回答も、応募しているポジションの性質を考える必要があります。ただし、多くの場合は、リスクをとるタイプがより良い候補者と見なされる可能性が高いです。 リスクをとるタイプといった場合、その理由とどのようにリスクをとるのか、きちんと説明できるようになってください。

 

Short Answers

 

“I consider myself to be in the middle.  I keep the options open and if the reward justifies the risks, I would definitely try.  “

 

“I take risks because through detail planning and analysis, it’s possible to reduce some of the risk.  So if there’s a reasonable chance of success, I would take the opportunity.”

「私は詳細な計画と分析をもって、リスクを軽減できると思うので、リスクを受け入れるタイプです。 ですので、成功する一定の見込みがある場合は、（リスクをとって）その機会をとります。」

 

“I consider myself to be in the middle.  I keep the options open and if the reward justifies the risks, I would definitely try.  “

「私は中間のタイプだと思います。 どちらの選択をするかはオープンしています。 報酬がリスクをとることを正当化する場合は絶対にリスクをとります。」

 

 

Q6:  Why do you want to leave your current job?

「なぜ今の仕事を辞めたいのですか？」

 

転職の場合には避けられない質問です。 今の仕事でアンハッピーなので転職したいのは明らかですが、本当の理由が何であれ、ネガティブな事は決して言わないようにしてください。 前向きな姿勢を出すことが大事です。

 

Short Answer Examples

 

“I want to find a position with more opportunities.  My current company was very small and didn’t have opportunities for growth. 

「私はもっと色々な機会のあるポジションをみつけたいと考えています。私の現在の会社はとても小さく、成長の機会がありませんでした。」

 

After learning about the work environment here, I felt this is exactly the type of place I want to work.”

 

“My current company is very large and it’s difficult to do different tasks.  I have routine work every day.  I want to work in an environment where I can utilize more of my skills.”

「私の現在の会社はとても大きく、違うタスクをすることが難しいです。私は毎日ルーティーンワークをしています。 私は自分のスキルをもっと活用できるような環境で仕事がしたいと考えています。」

 

最近は色々な理由で職住接近を好む人も多いと思うので、以下のようなシンプルな理由でも良い場合があると思います。

 

“I want to find a job closer to my new home.  My current job is too far away to commute.”

「私はより家の近くでの仕事を探しています。 私の現在の職場は遠すぎなのです。」

 

 

 

Q7： “What were the most memorable accomplishments in your last position?”

「あなたの最後のポジションで、最も記憶に残る達成した事は何ですか？」

 

この質問は、まだ経験が浅い人や、ルーティーンワーク等が多かった人には難しい質問です。 「特にありません」というのは最悪の返答ですので、よく考えて、何か回答を考えてください。 小さなことでも、うまく表現できるように、練習しておいてください。

 

 

Short Answers

 

“I remember the day I implemented the new process for the meeting room booking system for everybody’s use.  As an administrative assistant, it was my biggest contribution to improve the process in the company.  ”

「私はみんなのために、新しく会議室予約プロセスを導入した日を記憶しています。総務アシスタントとして、会社のプロセス改善にむけての最大の貢献でした。」

 

“The most memorable accomplishment I had as a sales associate for a software company was closing a deal worth 10 million yen.  This was the second largest order in our company.”

「コンピューターソフトウェアの会社に働いていて、最も記憶に残る達成は１千万円の取引を獲得した時です。 これは会社にとって過去２番目に大きい取引でした。」

 

 

 

Q8: “What do you do when you have a problem with a co-worker?”

「同僚との間で何か問題が起きた時、どうしますか？」

 

Short Answers

 

“If I have a problem with a co-worker, I believe it’s very important to talk to them.  It might be hard sometime but I try to communicate with them to solve the problems.”

「同僚との間で問題が発生した場合、直接話すことが大事だと思います。

時には難しい場合もあると思いますが、直接話して解決策を探すようにします。」

 

“I’ve always been told that I’m a great person to work with.  But if I were in a situation where I was having a problem, I believe I would work on our relationship by being more understanding each other.”

「私はいつも働いやすい同僚と言われています. しかし、もし何か問題が発生した場合はより相手と理解しあうことで、関係改善につとめます。」
